What should you check before buying a used e-bike?
There are plenty of bargains to be had buying a used e-bike, but there are also a few expensive mistakes you can make if you don't know what to look for.
For me, the battery is probably the biggest unknown. A bike can look immaculate and have very low mileage, but that doesn't necessarily mean the battery has been looked after properly.
I'd also want to check the motor for unusual noises or play, make sure the correct charger is included, inspect the frame and wheels, and look at the condition of the usual wear items such as the chain, cassette, brake pads and tyres.
If possible, I'd always take the bike for a decent test ride and run it through all the assistance levels rather than just riding it around a car park.
