Should you charge an e-bike battery to 100% every time?

There's a lot of conflicting advice around about the best way to charge an e-bike battery.

Some people charge to 100% after every ride so the bike is always ready to go. Others try to keep the battery somewhere between roughly 20% and 80% and only fully charge it when they need the extra range.

I've generally taken a fairly practical approach. If I'm going on a long ride, I'll charge to 100%. For shorter everyday rides, I'm less concerned about having a full battery.

What do you do with yours?

Do you charge after every ride, wait until the battery is getting low, or deliberately avoid charging to 100%?

It would also be interesting to hear from anyone who's owned the same battery for several years. What charging routine have you followed, and has the battery noticeably lost capacity?

There's also a discussion here about how much range people have lost from older e-bike batteries if you want to compare some real-world experiences.
